As we move towards this new reality, please remember that the expectation is NOT that you recreate a classroom in your home. Families of students in K-2 are being asked to aim for an hour (combined) of literacy and numeracy activities with 30 minutes of reading/numeracy and 30 minutes of physical activity (when possible).
I fully understand that this will look different in every home and that you will all do the best you can given the circumstances. Some days you may do less and some days more, depending on your own at-home work schedule and the needs of the other members of your family including younger and older siblings. That being said, this time does not have to be all at once. You can break up tasks into smaller chunks of time that fit within your own schedule. This is going to be a challenge for all of us but we're all in it together!
Most importantly, I want you to remember to leave your guilt at the door. Our own mental and emotional well being as well as that of our children is of the utmost importance right now. Some of you, I know, will be dealing with a whole lot of added stress. If you're having a moment (or a day), take a break (it won't hurt the kids!). Do a little extra physical activity as a family, get outside and get some fresh air. Maintain connections with friends and family virtually when it all gets to be too much. Just remember that we are all trying our best and we need to be kind to everyone and support each other.
